Languages

I'm having some difficulty finding exactly what kinds of languages were spoken in South Africa before the arrival of the Boers, but I did find this site: http://www.southafrica.info/about/people/language.htm 

It seems that most of the tribes spoke similar languages at first, but as time wore on, the dialects began to change subtly, enough to make it difficult for them to understand each other.
